Dear Leaders, Members & Community Allies,

What does intentional inclusion really look like?

It’s more than a seat at the table.
It’s about how the table is set and who’s helping shape the menu.

At AWL, inclusion is a practice, not a checkbox. And in a world that often forces leaders to choose between structure and empathy, confidence and vulnerability, we believe the real power lies in the “and.”

That’s why we lead with two brains.

As Co-founders we bring distinct strengths to the work we do, Jen with her human-centered, emotionally intelligent lens, and Melissa with her emotionally intelligent lens, strategic, results-driven focus. Together, we model a leadership approach that is not only inclusive in values, but in practice. We don’t just talk about diverse thinking, we live it, co-create through it, and teach from it.

This month’s G.U.I.D.E. spotlight is I – Intentionally Inclusive


True inclusion doesn’t happen by accident.

It’s a choice.

A strategy.

A muscle.
It shows up in how we lead meetings, mentor others, advocate in rooms we’ve earned access to and how we keep growing even when it's uncomfortable.

So this month, we invite you to pause and ask yourself:

🔹 Where in my leadership am I defaulting to comfort over inclusion?
🔹 What perspectives, people, or practices might I be missing?
🔹 How can I make space for collaboration that challenges and expands me?

This isn’t about perfection, it’s about presence.

Whether you’re navigating change, building a team, or launching a new vision, inclusion begins with intention.

And intention begins with awareness.

Let’s explore what that looked like across July.

 

What We’ve Been Up To at AWL – July Update, from Jen: 

Happy belated Canada Day and 4th of July to our North American friends.

We hope you had fun celebrating and we encourage you to take time to reflect on what the days really mean for all persons.  It's possible to feel two things at once, happy and grateful to be part of North America and upset and sad at the people who have had to suffer in order for Canada and the United States to be what they are.  

July has been busy!  

Melissa and I have been planning, laughing, contemplating and planning some more.  No complaints - just the reality of growing a business.  I've taken a break this month from facilitating and training and have settled nicely into Ottawa.  It's a beautiful city.  For all of those in the area, please reach out as I'd love to network with you.  I have continued to see clients and support them with their personal concerns.  

It can be heavy but I get so much joy in seeing the lights turn on for people. It's my fix - LOL.  

Melissa and I also did some training for Thames Centre in Emotional Intelligence.  It was so much fun.  I also did a keynote for the Powerfully Positioned summit.  What a great group!  I also attended a business after 5 event in Stittsville, ON.  Another great group of business leaders!

Also, our weekly LinkedIn live sessions on Tuesdays at noon have been going well.  Thank you for your support.

The month of August is going to be BUSY!!

I will be travelling to Sault St. Marie and San Antonio, Texas to do training for CTRI/Achieve AND I will be doing Emotional Intelligence Training with a group of student leaders at King's University College

We will be hosting our final Let's Get Intentional event for the 2024-2025 season!

We continue to take registrations for the Summer Reset Series - Mind, Body, YOU hosted at JamFit in Kanata, Ontario.  Registration will close on July 30th! The 4 week mastermind with Jackie Mieres-Johnston will start on August 7-28 at noon.  That's going to be AMAZING

Our very own Shirley Brooks in collaboration with Julie Dupont will start the 3 week Pilot Group Mentorship program in August.

In August, you will find Melissa 

  • Leading  the final Let's Get Intentional event of the 2024-2025 season
  • Teaching and empowering through the LinkedIn live series:  Double Take
  • Starting to build out partnership opportunities for the new season
  • Delivering many EQi assessments and coaching debriefs helping people develop their EQ
  • Meeting with potential sponsors and business members
